Yellow Gemstones bring out your Good Mood in Cold Weather

Updated: Oct 3

In the midst of saying farewell (not goodbye) to this extraordinary summer 2020 and hello to autumn, the warm yellow colours come into focus. The colours of yellows, burnt oranges and reds so well associated with autumn are well documented, you will find plenty of material, be it fashion, food or jewellery which will uplift and inspire you out there.

Let me ask you:

Why do we like the yellows and what draws us to them as the cold creeps in starting with autumn?

A very simple answer:

It uplifts our moods and we feel happy.

It is the warm colour of the sun, fire, of action, of life. The season is turning cold, we feel sad, but the sun burns brighter then it did in the summer, the sunsets and rises are more spectacular. The sun is telling all us that it is not goodbye but farewell, it reminds us that it will be coming back again by showering us with its best and warmest colour spectrum yellows, oranges and reds, and so our mood turns bright.

The colours of yellow reside in fire which we light in the cold deeper inky nights to create "roshni" (light) and heat for warming our hands and faces and for the warmth we feel inside us.

To help us with this we will pick a yellow scarf, or a red handbag or red coloured jewellery something to create "roshni", a light around us just like the fabulous light in the above picture.

Yellow is also associated with the planet Jupiter, a prominent planet in the field of astrology from ancient cultures and to today.

In the Vedic Jyotish system, Jupiter is a foundation planet and its gemstone is the yellow sapphire. There is a whole chapter and verse on in the Rig Veda on this subject.

If you want a starter for 6, the Healing Powers of Gemstones by Harish Johari is well worth a look.

According to George F Kunz,

"Of the seven ages of man, yellow typified adolescence"

So if you are suffering the nightmare of living with a mood swinging teenager, one of the main issues with teenagers is that they lack sleep, and we all know how miserable we are with a bad night's sleep! The yellow gemstone or crystal, citrine, can help bring about undisturbed sleep. So give them a piece of citrine jewellery or pop a citrine crystal into the bedroom and see what happens.

When it comes to Ayurveda, it teaches us that everything in existence has its own form of energy, its own rhythm and vibration so wearing gemstones of different colours has a profound impact on our own health and energy systems. In the case here, yellow gemstones, being completely natural and high quality, help to calm vata and pitta, builds lung and kidney energies and strengthen the heart organ. Again if you want to go deeper into this area, try Gem Therapy and Ayurveda.

In the coming month I will write a full article on these yellow stones. Since the ancient times when yellow sapphires and citrines were the main focus, today we have many many more beautiful beautiful yellow stones but I am willing to bet that aside of citrine and amber, the other stones will not have entered your imagination.

In the meantime enjoy these images of different yellow gemstones.
