Colours and Emotions: Seasonal and Rainbow Colours, Coloured Gemstones and How you Feel
Updated: Sep 10, 2021

When considering the colours of gemstones, there are as many variations as there are eyes in this world to seen them.
Colour adds to the magic and miracle of living. Can you envisage/think of the world in monochrome? Just one colour, no tones or shades, no nothing? People who are blind or colour blind, they can still "see" in shades and hues...they are especially gifted to feeling shades and hues.
Colour gives us a way to judge feelings, tastes, for example red chilli is hot in taste and we go "red in the face" when we are angry. Green cucumber is cool both in taste and in feel, "cool as a cucumber"!
Colour permeates life so lets explore colour.
The central expressive symbol of colour is the rainbow.

So, scientifically speaking a rainbow is
"a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by the reflection and refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicoloured circular arc"
Colours of the rainbow have a great deal of significance in all cultures both ancient and modern.
The colour sequence is remembered by a "mnemonic"
Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain
Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet

This is also the colour sequence order for the Vedic chakra system.
Rainbow colours are also associated with the seasons, spring, summer, autumn, winter with their corresponding solstices and equinoxes.
The rainbow of colours show themselves all together, with particular colourways dominating each season.

Winter
Is the pure light of white with tinges of reds and greens. even the dessert usually associated with heat and summer takes on a pale whitest shade.
Spring
Greens in every shade imaginable is spring. Every single tone of green has a brightness and a sparkle of the sunlight reflected. Its as if the pure spectrum of the rainbow is captured and you see clean through like clear glass.
Summer
Yellow, yellow of the sun, yellow whose colour evokes heat and warmth of the summer season. It is intertwined with bright but pastel shades reds, purples, blues, violets and white.
Autumn
Reds and oranges and all the washes of red and yellow tones are the signature of autumn.
Man has created many ways to capture the rainbow in objects that they can hold in their hands, maybe for luck, or its pretty or just because.

Crystals and gemstones I would say is the most perfect and natural way of holding a colour of the rainbow in your hand.
Why you may ask.
The answer is because they are borne from the same source as the rainbow itself, NATURE or PRAKRITI.
